To Know I’m OK: Radical Talent, Cutting-edge Promotion

by Carol Quinn on June 24, 2011

I just listened to Terra Naomi‘s new CD, To Know I’m OK, and in my opinions, she’s much more than OK–she’s a phenomenal singer/songwriter.  I have such admiration for Terra Naomi: she’s a dedicated, talented artist, a savvy promoter, deeply connected to her fans, and she’s made a hell of a CD.

To Know I’m Ok is Naomi’s first album since the 2007 release of her album Under The Influence with Universal-Island Records. After a challenging major label experience, Terra Naomi set about creating the album she had always wanted to make, and she’s promoting it using cutting-edge digital tools, strategic partnerships, and social media outreach.

Terra Naomi is part of the new wave of independent artists revolutionizing music distribution and promotion. Her latest album is 100% fan-funded through Pledge Music, and produced by Grammy nominated John Alagia (John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, Rachael Yamagata).

But there’s more!

With over 20 million views of her videos online, the inaugural YouTube Award winner not only returned to her roots, she partnered with technology companies and iPhone apps to launch her new album.

In partnership with Hipstamatic (Apple’s “App of The Year”), and director Alex Albrecht from Revision3′s Diggnation, Terra Naomi released the first ever iPhone app based, crowdsourced, stop-motion music video. In a
contest promoted via Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, fans responded enthusiastically, submitting over 10,000 Hipstamatic photos directly from their iPhones for inclusion in Terra’s video. The project website can be seen here.

“My path has never been straightforward and I’ve never followed the rules, sometimes with
better results than other times. I’ve overcome so much in my life, and my biggest goal is to
inspire people through my music and my story. I want to help people understand that if you
keep going, if you refuse to give up, if you work harder and believe in yourself when no one
else believes in you, then there is always hope. Whether it’s healing from an illness,
overcoming an addiction, rebuilding a career, mending a relationship…all these things are
possible if we hold onto that hope and support our goals with action.”
